Easy to keep - ideal for beginners and aquarium enthusiasts
Triops and fairy shrimps are extremely easy to care for and make for exciting observations. An aquarium of 2 liters or more is enough to experience their entire life cycle.
- Triops grow up to 7 cm in size
- Fairy shrimps reach up to 2.5 cm
At around 20 °C and soft water, the tiny nauplii hatch from the eggs and reach an age of 2-3 months with good care. Triops bury their eggs in the substrate, whereas fairy shrimps lay them loosely. After the life cycle, the sand can be dried and used for the next breeding attempt.
Important tips for successful breeding
- The animals need light to hatch and a temperature of approx. 21-26 °C. You can also find suitable lighting and heaters from us.
- The hatching rate depends on factors such as water values, temperature and light.
- The species included are random mixtures of different Triops and fairy shrimp varieties.
- Color variants can range from brown, green and blue to red. Let yourself be surprised!
Practical tip
Use a batch of crayfish eggs several times after drying, as not all eggs hatch at the same time.

I can only warmly recommend the set as a cultivation set; especially the large set including filter and pump. In my experience, no grow kit should contain fewer accessories. Super hatch rate - the nature of the Triops does the rest ;). In our case, the fairies were eventually all eaten by the Triops, but they had the proteins they needed and two of the Triops - the best two hunters - are now growing up, burying eggs like crazy and giving us an incredible amount of pleasure every day... Depending on the space available, in my experience a heating rod should also be used for the longis, which like warmth. As soon as the animals get bigger, you should also have a larger tank to move them to, with significantly more sand and more space so that they can let off steam. The set alone is not enough if you want to offer the animals a good life. Unfortunately, you can also find various "experimental sets" on the market. Admittedly, I got into the whole story rather by chance and with mixed feelings, also via such an experiment kit, but I quickly realised that those experiment kits are all sorts of things and above all pretty to look at - but not animal-friendly, even if they are sold as "simple and completely sufficient". Prehistoric crayfish are pets and should be treated accordingly, this requires knowledge, space, time and money, as with other pets. You should be prepared to do this before you buy a breeding set. And beware, there is definitely a risk of addiction ;).
