The unique composition permanently removes chlorine and chloramines and detoxifies and binds ammonium, nitrite and heavy metals. Ammonia and nitrite are toxic to fish. Normally, the biology and the filter should manage to keep the values within a problem-free range. This biological balance can be disturbed by medication, overfeeding and/or too many fish, resulting in problematic concentrations of the toxins mentioned.
