In the aquarium hobby, the names gourami and gourami refer to different species from different families of labyrinth fish. The popularity of dwarf gouramis (genus Trichogaster) in the aquarium hobby over the centuries is fascinating. The characteristics of these fish: "colourful" and "robust" - are important selection criteria, especially for newcomers to the aquarium hobby.
The responsible aquarist will, of course, offer his fish the best possible conditions despite their robustness. But it is not only pleasant for beginners if a mistake, such as the failure of a filter pump, does not immediately trigger a catastrophe in the fish population – and dwarf gouramis are forgiving of such mistakes.
