Product information "JBL CO2 Direct Test"

JBL CO₂ Direct Test Set - Quick test to determine the carbon dioxide content in freshwater aquariums, CO2 Direct Test-Set

  • Simple and reliable control of the water values of aquariums.
  • Determines the optimal carbon dioxide content for fresh and saltwater aquariums
  • Colour change test: fill plastic cuvette with sample water, add reagent drop by drop until colour changes. Number of drops = level of carbon dioxide content
  • To use: in case of green algae problems, non-growing plants or fish mortality: once a week

Healthy aquariums with conditions close to nature
The right water values are dependent on the fish stock and the plants in the aquarium. Even if the water looks clear it can be contaminated. With bad values diseases or algae can appear in the aquarium. To maintain a healthy aquarium with conditions close to nature it is important to check and adapt the water values regularly.

For each water analysis JBL provides water tests in the form of quick tests or colour change tests. These determine a certain value or several values in one go. With these water tests you can recognise algae problems and negative nitrate, nitrite, potassium, magnesium values etc.

Why test?
Carbon dioxide is the most important plant nutrient. The optimal value lies between 20-25 mg/l. This level is harmless for fish and ensures thriving plant growth.

Rotala wallichii (Red mosswort)
Rotala wallichiiRotala wallichii is a slow growing, stem plant. The needle-like, delicate leaves are red in color and provide an eye-catching feature in your aquarium.Growing: difficultLight requirements: highCO₂ requirements: highAdult plant height: up to 40 cmGrowth: slowTemperature: 24 - 26°CPlacement in aquarium: second or third levelOrigin: Asia6 cm cup diameterRotala Wallichii is a demanding plant with red coloration. It is native to southeast Asia. Its Polish name is Rotala periwinkle. The leaves have the shape of fine needles. The intensity of color increases with increasing light output and is characterized by slow growth. Mature stems reach a height of up to 40 cm. The place of planting must be well planned. Faster growing plants can completely cover it. It should not be planted too densely, as the lower parts of the trunk are sensitive to lack of light. As it grows, it will form a uniform group of mature plants. The plant has a high light requirement. Strong light, fertilization and CO₂ dosage are necessary for good growth. It requires soft, slightly acidic water that is rich in carbon dioxide. Under these conditions, it thrives optimally. The exceptionally delicate appearance and subtle beauty of this plant rewards the hard work of breeding. Rotala wallichii grows well in a fertile substrate. You will get the best growth results if you plant it in an active substrate. Propagation is by shoot cuttings. Cultivation from in vitro plants is done in tissue culture laboratories. The cuttings are free from snails, algae or pathogens thanks to sterile production conditions.Planting: The plant must be removed from the cup and thoroughly rinsed from the gel under running water. This is best done by placing the plant in a container of lukewarm water. Most of the gel will then fall off by itself. Divide the contents of the cup into 1-2 cm lumps and then place them on the selected items at a small distance..

Limnophila aromatica
Limnophila aromaticaLimnophila Aromatica (fragrant limnophilia) is a beautiful plant for the second or third level. It turns purple under intense light.Difficulty of cultivation: moderate Light requirement: medium CO₂ requirement: medium Adult plant height: up to 50 cm Growth: moderate Temperature: 22-28°C Placement in aquarium: second or third level Origin: Asia Cup diameter: 6 cm Limnophila Aromatica (fragrant Limnophila, rice paddy weed) is a plant that has earned a place in aquariums around the world due to its unique appearance and leaf color. It is native to Asia, where it usually grows in rice paddies or swamps near water. It does well after the end of the rainy season in a dry place in a still moist, sandy soil. At high temperatures, the plant flowers, forms fruit, and then dies. Traditionally used as a spice, especially in Vietnamese cuisine. Its flavor is reminiscent of cumin and lemon. Currently, the plant can also be found in America and Australia.Limnophilia Aromatica is a stalk plant that produces lance-shaped leaves with serrated edges. Their color depends on the intensity of light. If the plant has little access to light, its leaves are green. If the light is strong, the entire top of the plant is intense red and the leaves are purple on the underside. In aquariums, plant it in the second or third level, leaving a distance of 1.5 cm between cuttings. It grows quite fast, its optimal pH is 6-7. It tolerates temperatures between 15 and 30 °C, but it is better to avoid extreme temperatures and keep it between 22 and 28 °C. In aquariums it is propagated by cutting and planting young plants that form on the stems or from the tips. The plant does not require absolute CO₂ fertilization, but grows much faster with CO₂ addition. To achieve the desired intense red-purple color of the leaves, the plant must be strongly illuminated. In addition, attention must be paid to the correct water parameters in the aquarium, especially the optimal iron, nitrate and phosphate content, so that the plant can absorb the nutrients from the water column. Due to its strongly developed root system, the plant grows best in active media.Planting: The plant must be removed from the cup and thoroughly rinsed from the gel under running water. This is best done by placing the plant in a container of lukewarm water. Most of the gel will then fall off by itself. Divide the contents of the cup into 1-2 cm lumps and then set them at intervals of 1 to 2 cm.

JBL NO2 nitrite test
Variant: Test set | Variant (2): Test set
JBL NO2 Nitrite Test rapid test for determining the nitrite content in fresh/sea water aquariums & ponds Despite careful water care, it can happen that your water is contaminated. With this quick test set you can check the nitrite content in freshwater and saltwater aquariums and ponds. Simple and safe control of water values in aquariums and ponds. Determination of the optimum nitrite value for filter control for fresh and salt water Laboratory comparator system to compensate for inherent water coloration: Fill plastic cuvette with sample water, add reagents to a cuvette, place cuvette in holder, read values on color chart Duration of use: For new freshwater set-up: 3 weeks daily. For new marine water: once a week. For fish diseases or fish mortality 1 rapid test, nitrite test NO2. Contents for approx. 50 measurements. Incl. 2 reagents, 2 glass cuvettes with screw cap, syringe, comparator block and color scale. Refill reagent available separately Healthy aquarium / healthy pond with near-natural conditionsThe correct water values in the aquarium/pond depend on the fish population and the plants present. Even if the water looks clear, it may be contaminated. If the values are poor, diseases or algae can form in the aquarium/pond. For a healthy aquarium/pond with near-natural conditions, it is important to regularly check and adjust the water values. JBL offers water tests in the form of rapid tests or color change tests for every water analysis. These determine a specific value or several values simultaneously. With these water tests, algae problems can be detected and negative nitrate, nitrite, potassium, magnesium values etc. can be determined. Why test:Nitrite is produced when bacteria break down protein and ammonium. It is normally further processed into non-toxic nitrate. Nitrite (NO2) should not be measurable in aquarium and pond water. If nitrite is nevertheless measurable, the bacterial degradation process is disturbed and from a concentration of 0.4 mg/l it becomes dangerous or even fatal for fish, as nitrite blocks the oxygen transport in the blood of the animals. Water changes and good bacterial starters such as JBL Denitrol or JBL BactoPond can help.

In case of green algae problems or when plants don’t grow properly. Testing aquarium water for healthy, clear water 1 quick test, Iron Test Fe. Contents for approx. 50 measurements, incl. reagent, 2 glassvials with screw cap, syringe, comparator block and Fe colour scale. Refill reagent available separately Healthy aquariums with conditions close to natureThe right water values are dependent on the fish stock and the plants inside the aquarium. Why test? In addition to a sufficient CO2 supply, iron and trace elements are essential for water plants. Strongly growing aquatic plants permanently need iron and other trace elements, and these are only durable for a limited period during the coupling to so-called chelates, a common feature in modern fertiliser preparations (e.g. JBL Ferropol, JBL Fe +Microelements), so regular monitoring with the JBL Iron Test Fe is needed, along with repeated fertilisation if necessary. Pond owners should check their well water for iron before using it for their pond. Too high iron content can lead to problems in the pond.

Tropica CO2 Plant Growth System Nano Set
The Plant Growth System Nano is a small, elegant solution for small aquariums A Plant Growth System Nano is a desirable solution for precise CO2 dosage for small aquariums. CO2 addition benefits the growth of all plants and improves colour development. A simple and inexpensive way to supply extra CO2 to the plants in your aquarium Easy to install, use and maintain Suitable for starter-sets, where even small amounts of extra CO2 will make a positive difference for the plants User guide: Ensure that the regulator is fully off before you mount the regulator on the CO2 cartridge. Fill the diffuser-chamber with water. Place the cartridge in the rack, slide the suction cups on the hose and mount the hose to the regulator and the diffuser. Mount the diffuser with the suction cups at the inner side of the tank near the bottom and place the hose in the back corner. Leave the diffuser for 24h in the tank to ensure the ceramic disc is fully moistened. Open the regulator carefully and count the number of bubbles per minute in the diffuser-chamber. Wait 5 minutes, adjust and repeat until the number of bubbles per minute is similar to the recommendation in the table. The table shows recommended dosage (bubbles per minute) in different tank sizes. A 95 g CO2 cartridge contains 50,000 ml CO2. The most important nutrient for plants is CO2. The natural CO2 level in an aquarium is 0-0.5 mg/L of water.Even the slightest addition of CO2 can make a big difference improving the growth and vigour of the plants. If the aquarium contains only slow-growing Easy-plants, the addition of CO2 gas into the water should reach a level of approx. 3 mg/L to ensure good growth conditions. For Medium category plants the CO2 requirement is approximately 10 mg/L and for Advanced plants approx. 25 mg/L. *) If you have a larger aquarium containing Medium or Advanced plants, the lifetime of a nano-cartridge will be too short. In this case we recommend a larger cylinder e.g. 2 kg refillable.
