Ammonium is not usually measurable in a maintained aquarium with an effective biological filter and in a correctly set up garden pond. Why test?Nitrite results during the degradation by bacteria of protein and ammonium. It is normally processed further into non-toxic nitrate. In aquarium and pond water nitrite (NO2) should not be measurable. If nitrate is measurable, it is a sign that the bacterial degradation process has been disturbed, and from a concentration of 0.4 mg/l it is dangerous or even fatal for fish, because nitrite blocks the transport of oxygen in the blood. NO2 – Ein gegen null tendierender Nitritgehalt ist ein Hinweis darauf, dass der Filter seine Aufgabe erfüllt und das Wasser unbedenklich für die Fische ist.
NO3 – Der Nitratgehalt gibt Aufschluss darüber, wie „frisch“ das Wasser und wie hoch folglich die Wahrscheinlichkeit des Algenwachstums ist.

Precise measurement of the following values: pH test: acidity of the water from 3.0 to 10 KH test: pH stability of the water (carbonate hardness) Fe test: iron value to control the fertilisation NO2 test: toxic nitrogen compound NO3 test: reason for algae growth To determine the CO2 content you just need to measure the pH and KH values. From both values arises the CO2 content in the water, which then can be referenced from the enclosed table.
